SECTION 7.0 Miscellaneous
7.1 Vegetation Monitoring on Trapper Reclaimed Lands (2002)
Routine vegetation monitoring on 227 acres of reclaimed Trapper rangelands in Ashmore, Derringer,
Flintlock and Hawken pits was accomplished during the 2002 field season. A total of 59 50-meter
transects were monitored. Vegetation parameters sampled included ground cover, species
composition and woody stem density.
The second year of Phase III bond release sampling occurred on 407 acres of reclaimed croplands in
Ashmore, Browning and Coft pits, and on 1,481 acres of reclaimed rangelands in Ashmore, Colt,
Derringer and Enfield pits. IME (Kent Crofts) from Yampa, Colorado conducted the Phase III
sampling. The Phase III bond release application (SL-4) will be submitted in early 2003.
Vegetation monitoring planned for 2003 will include routine sampling of non-Phase III rangelands
(selected reclaimed parcels seeded from 1993 through 2002).
7.2 Grazing of Reclaimed Lands
No cattle grazing occurred on Trapper reclaimed lands during 2002, nor is grazing planned for 2003.
7.3 2003 Revegetation Seed Mixes
• Section 3.6.3.5 of Trapper's Mining and Reclamation permit requires that the Division be notified of
the seed mixtures proposed to be used each year. Tables 7-1 through 7-3 give the 2003 proposed
mixtures.
7.4 Derringer Pit Interseeding Project
Parcels reclaimed from 1997 to 2000, encompassing 123.0 acres, were interseeded in Fall 2002 with
a mixture of shrubs and non-aggressive (orbs (see Table 7.5 in 2001 Annual Report). Interseeding
was conducted because 2001vegetation sampling showed that shrub density in this area was less
than the 400-stems/acre standard. The forbs were included to improve overall plant community
diversity.
7.5 Trapper Mine Facilities
In 2002, in accordance with MR-186, the bulk explosives tanks were moved from the west side of the
mine to a spot at the north end of Flintlock Pit. Approval to relocate the explosives magazines from
the west side of the mine to the north end of Flintlock Pit was also granted in 2002 (MR-187), but the
actual relocation will not occur until 2003.
~oMCwzvEC~eav~o7
