Doc Date:1211112001 III IIIIIIIIIIIII III
~\~
2,06.8 COAL t4INING AND RECLAMATION OPERATIONS ON AREAS, OR ADJACENT
TO AREAS, IDICLUDIPIG ALLUVIAL VALLEY FLOORS
• The proposed mine site is located in what is !v-~c:m as Lewis
Gulch 0.75 miles upstream from the Gulch's interception vrith
Gals Creek, Lewis Gulch erould be classed as an ephemeral stream
of steep gradient vrashed during flood stages to a resistant
sandstone bed and would certainly not be classed as an alluvial
valley floor, The Oak Creek Valley, as previously discussed,,
serves as a :•rater supply for the City of Rockvale and provides
some irrigation :eater for a small hayfield adjacent to the City
of Rockvale. One derelling approximately one-half mile northwest
of the junction of the mine access road ~•rith County Road 77
receives its vrater supply from Oak Creek. The probable effect
of the proposed mine on water supplies in the area eras pre-
viously discussed in Section 2,05.6 (3) of the application,
• The irrigated hayfield or pasture adjacent to the City of
Rockvale is ovmed by the City of Rockvale. The field is
presently leased, The irrigation water used on the field is
diverted from Oak Creek just downstream from the intersection
of the mine access road and County Road 77, and flours in open ditch
to the field, The City of Rockvale controls the flow of the
ditch, giving first priority to domestic water usage, The field
has approximately tvrenty acres planted in alfalfa erith some
grass pasture in the shaded areas, Production of hay from the
field is a direct function of the availability of water in Oak
Creek. Hay in the area has an economic value of $2.50 per bale.
The cost to put up hay locally is $7,00 to $8.00 per acre to
• swath, $, 50 to $.60 per bale to bale, and $,25 to $. 30 to pick
up and stack.
Other items to be considered in the economics of the field are
~Z
