ANSLEY FLATS <br />This site is located 3 miles Southwest of Fairplay, Co. <br />The area is on nearly level land and is used mostly for <br />native pastureland. <br />Soils <br />The soil at this site is 22D. This mapping unit consists <br />of shallow, dark, loamy, soils. They are gravelly and <br />cobbly on the surface and throughout the profile. These <br />soils occur on gently sloping to strongly sloping slopes. <br />They have developed on gravelly and cobbly outwash materials. <br />They take water well, but have a limited water holding <br />capacity because of the high content of gravel and cobble. <br />The elevation ranges from 9,000 to 10,400 feet. The annual <br />precipitation ranges from 12 to 17 inches. <br />Native vegetation occuring on this site consists of Arizona <br />fescue, Western wheatgrass, blue grama, Junegrass, Mountain <br />and slimstem muhly, fringe sage and other forbs. <br />This site may be observed south and east of Fairplay, between <br />Fairplay and Alma, and east of Como along the Elkhorn road <br />(east of Hwy. 285). <br />This soil occurs on gently sloping to steep topography. It <br />is an inclusion in the Mountain Outwash range site. <br />At the type location this soil is on a 2 percent slope facing <br />southeast. Elevation is approximately 9975 feet. <br />The type location is across the South Platte River, across <br />from Fairplay (South Park City) on the. cut along the river <br />bank. SW~ of Sec. 33, T9S, R77W. <br />Typifying pedon: Sand loam <br />Al 0-4" Dark brown (7.SYR 3/2) moist, sandy loam; <br />moderate fine granular structure; soft, <br />very friable; contains gravels; clear <br />smooth boundary. <br />AC 4-11" Dark brown (7.SYR 3/4) moist, sandy loam; <br />moderate fine granular structure; this <br />layer contains 15 to 20 percent gravels; <br />soft, very friable; gradual and smooth <br />boundary. <br />
