throughout the area. Typical analysis of the C Coal Seam and the
B Coal Seam on an as-received basis is as follows:
• C-Seam B-Seam B-Seam
Core
Btu/lb 12,780 12,200 12,285
Moisture (%) 5.9 8.00 4.90
Sulfur% 0.44 0.55 0.48
Sulfate(%) 0.01
Pyritic(%) 0.04
Organic(%) 0.39
ASH 8.00 8.00 9.34
Location of Subsurface Water
No water is present in the abandoned workings of the old Edwards
Mine. Because the old workings dip to the north, any water
encountered in the mine should drain to the old portal. However,
no water has been encountered draining from the old workings.
Several springs were identified in the Arco Mt. Gunnison Permit
Application and the old Bear Cosl Company Permit Application
submitted to the Division of February 16, 1981; however, all of
the data obtained to date by Bear Coal Company for the Bear No. 3
Portals indicates that the area to be mined is void of any sub-
stantial amounts of groundwater. Any groundwater occurrences in
this area are probably not continuous but rather a series of
perched systems. Additional information on groundwater occur-
rence is set forth in Section 2.04.7.
• Drill Hole Lo s
Exhibit 8, Drill Hole Logs contains the two lithologic logs which
show and describe the lithologic characteristics and thickness of
each strata and each coal seam. The location of the 2 drill
holes presented in Exhibit 8, Drill Hole Logs, is shown of the
Geology/Hydrology Map (Map 6).
• 2.04-Z1
Revised June 29, 1990
