Dept of Natural Resources
FROM: Hal D. Simpson, Assistant State EngineeiGbl~a
SUBJECT: R. E. Monks Construction, Monks Plant N1, Application for Mining
and Reclamation Permit, q83-193
As requested, we have reviewed the above referenced application for a gravel
pit northeast of Colorado Springs. The application indicates water will be
supplied to the operation by a proposed well. We have recently issued a well
permit, number 26943-F, for a well on this land. The well permit allows 9.45
acre-feet per year to be diverted from the Arapahoe aquifer for the operation.
The application indicates that water will be supplied to a pond on the site
from the well. Will ground water also flow into the pond? If so, Monks Con-
struction would also need a well permit for the pond in order to comply with
CRS 1973, 37-90-137. We will order mining to cease if we determine that Monks
Construction is in violation of this requirement.
We have no other comments concerning the proposed gravel pit.
HDS/JRH:ma

of coto •
Hea O
** ,,o *r '
• ~s~s
OFFICE OF THE STATE ENGINEER
DIVISION OF WATER RESOURCES
cc: Bob Jesse, Div.
