0 i
EXHIBIT G
Water Information
The River Valley Resource site is located in Routt County north and east of the Yampa River,
just south of the City of Steamboat Springs. The consumptive use of groundwater from proposed
mining activities will only have a minor impact on the Yampa River. The impacts can be
mitigated without injury to senior water rights.
The Pre-Mining/Mining Plan Map (Exhibit C) illustrates water resources on the site. The Yampa
River is located to the south and west of the site. The site does not contain any other active
irrigation structures that convey water outside of the site boundary.
Mining of the River Valley Resource site will occur in 13 mining phases and last approximately
15 years. Reclamation will occur concurrent with mining operations. Reclamation of the site will
include the construction of mitigation wetlands and the resultant groundwater lake area of
approximately 64 acres.
The deposit will be dry mined. Dewatering trenches and pumps will be used to dewater the
deposit prior to mining below the water table. Dewatering trenches will be excavated around the
perimeter of each phase prior to mining and pumps will be used to remove the water that drains
from the deposit and surrounding alluvium into the trench. If necessary, water from the trenches
will be circulated through a settling basin prior to it being discharged into the Yampa River.
As each of the 13 phases will be dry mined, groundwater will be exposed in dewatering trenches
and collection basins. Groundwater and stormwater will flow along trenches by gravity to the
collection basins. Prior to discharge into the Yampa River, the collected groundwater and/or
stormwater will be evaluated for the presence of contaminants.
Some of the excavated material will be processed on-site. Once material is recovered, some will
be transported to a crushing and screening plant to be prepared for use in a concrete or asphalt
plant. The rest will be used as pit run material.
The mining operation will impact groundwater systems hydrologically connected to the Yampa
River. The depth to groundwater ranges from approximately 0 to 5 feet across the proposed site
and, therefore, the operation will extract sand and gravel deposits from the Yampa River alluvial
aquifer. This reach of the Yampa River is not fully appropriated at this time.
As determined by Water Resource Consultants, LLC in their Flood-Plain and Flood-Way
Delineation, October 17 2000, the entire site is not located within the Yampa River 100-year
floodplain.
RIVer Valley Resource
DMG 112 Perron
Page 13
