• LC wells (LC 1, 2, 3, and 4) were perforated in the number five seam
coal is about six to eight feet thick. Well depths of the LC wells vary
from 286 feet deep (down-dip sites) to 125 feet at LC 4. The two dual
completion wells both lie down-dip from the two active miring pits. All
four of these wells (UC 1, UC 2, LC 1, and LC2) monitor quality and static
well level parameters. Well LC 4 is located in Hayden Gulch between the
two pits and monitors quality and water levels. LC 4 is located west of
the VTN well G 1 and G 2 and monitors static water levels and water quality.
Well UC 3 is located east of the existing pit near bore hole 47 and monitors
static water levels and water quality. Stem-type (air lift) pump tests have
been conducted at wells LC 2, LC 4, and UC 2 to determine transmissivity
values. Quarterly water quality monitoring and monthly static water level
readings have been conducted at all seven wells for a period of one year.
This network was positioned to allow triangulation interpretation to provide
the necessary required input to assess the total groundwater resource. Defini-
tion of seasonal variation, baseline conditions, and mining impact upon the
• hydrologic balance are presented later in the report.

4
"' _lA . ~.
