Mile Sandstone, lower Willimas Fork coals, Trout Creek Sandstone, and Iles
formation coals) indicate that there is little communication between them,
and therefore, the mine should have little effect on them. Springs SP 1,
2, and 3 appear to discharge water transmitted by localized lenticular
sandstones originating above the mine zone. These springs will partially
dry up during active mining and will approach their original flow rates as
backfilling occurs. Seep SP 4 receives its water supply from one of the
coal sequences scheduled to be mined. SP 4 is immediately adjacent to the
backfilling and reclamation, SP 4 discharges will return to normal or to
slightly higher than normal rates.
4.1.1.6 Regional 4lells
An inventory was made of wells registered with the Colorado Division of
Water Resources within four miles of the mine site. The locations of these
wells are shown on Exhibit 33, and pertinent data regarding them are
given on Table 3.
. Only nine wells were found within the four-mile radius, all of which are
used for stock watering and domestic consumption; there are no registered
wells down dip from the site within this area. It is likely that there are a
number of additional unregistered wells in the area, particularly along the
East Fork of the Williams Fork River. It is unlikely that any wells will be
.affected by mining since, all are 1'2 miles or more from the site. In the
Final Report detailed drawdowns and cone of depression contours will be plotted
to further assess registered well impacts.
4.1.2 Site Investigation
The hydro9eology of the site was investigated to evaluate the ground water
resource in terms of quality and quantity and to evaluate the potential
effects mining will have on these resources.
4.1.2.1 Occurrence of Water-bearing Zones
In order to evaluate the presence of water-bearing zones within the pro-
• posed mined interval, two core holes and one hole eventually completed as
dual completion monitoring wells were observed during air mist drilling for
10
