Virginia
Gunnison, Colorado $1230
Dear Kenny:
Attached you will find soils and reseeding information for the
Doyleville gravel pit located on Highway 50 East at Doyleville, T4$N,
R3E, NE:, N'~Iy.'., Sect.
The soil in this site is Parlin-hiergel dry gravelly looms 5-45%
slopes (PmF). (See attached location map soils inset.) The erosion
hazard is moderate to high, and runoff is medium to rapid. The range
site for this area is dry mountain loam. This soil is used principally
for grazing and wildlife.
An onsite vegetation survey was taken at the site and the existing
vegetation is as follows:
Grasses Forbs Shrubs
crested wheatgrass phlox big sagebrush
squirreltail rabbitbrush
needlegrass
western wheatgrass
lJe have made t4ro reseeding recommendations for a non-irrigated site:
I II
western wheatgrass 40;0' western wheatgrass 40'b
Russian wildrye 20~ Russian wildrye 40;0
Indian ricegrass 20;b crested wheatgrass 200
crested wheatgrass 20;-'5
(See attached supporting data for grass seeding.)
Due to the fact that seed for Indian ricegrass is expensive, you
may want to use mixture II, however, Indian ricegrass is an excellent
grass for this site and should adapt well.
You may also want to add some yellow sweetclover to the mix since
this is a good nitrogen-fixing plant.
If you need further information, please let us know.
Yours,
Deirdre Fotescu
Soil Conservation Aid
0
