Turnpike Mining
Resources
Deaz Mr. McKee:
In advance of mineral extraction planning for the Turnpike Mining Resources project,
Savage and Savage requests Corps concurrence for a ditch (Gooding, Dailey, and Plumb
Ditch) and drainage located within the west portion of the Turnpike Mining Resources
site that we have concluded are non-jurisdictional. The azea of interest within the
proposed mineral extraction site forms a triangle between a fazm road to the north,
Boulder Creek to the east, and Weld County Road 1 to the west. The azea of interest
contains approximately 30 acres. The site is located within the West '/z of Section 3 i,
Township 2 North, Range 68 West, 6`h Principal Meridian, Weld County, Colorado.
(Turnpike Mining Resources General Location Map)
The Gooding, Dailey, and Plumb Ditch channel is approximately eight feet wide. The
ditch flows north and then west to an upland area within Section 18, Township 2 North,
Range 68 West, 6`h Principal Meridian, Weld County, Colorado. Vegetation along the
ditch is dominated by reed canarygrass (Phalaris arundinacea), three-squaze (Scirpus
americanus), and knapweed (Centaurea sp.) (Figure 1).
A small drainage (with associated cattail community) flows from the west and connects
with the Gooding, Dailey, and Plumb Ditch. Vegetation is dominated by broadleaf
cattails (Typha latifolia). Many different species occur along the edge of the cattails.
These include three-square, reed canazygrass, barley (Hordeum vulgare), and inland
saltgrass (Distichlis spicata). Uplands above and adjacent to the ditch and drainage are
dominated by mixed grasses such as crested wheatgrass (Agropyron cristatum), western
wheatgrass (Agropyron smithii), and blue grama (Bouteloua gracilis).
