6.4.8 Exhibit H -Wildlife Information
small portion of the home ranges of these predators. Additionally, there are
many prairie dogs on adjacent areas. Therefore, the loss of prairie dogs on the
site should not significantly affect these predators.
The project is unlikely to affect PMJM because the on-site studies indicate the
species is unlikely to occur there. Bald eagle roost sites and nest sites are not
present on the permit area and will not be affected. Bald eagle perch trees just
south of the area to be mined will not be affected by mining. However, bald
eagles may cease to use these trees while cells 1 and 4 are being mined. It is
anticipated that bald eagle use of these trees will resume once mining is
complete.
The project is unlikely to affect black-footed ferrets because this species is
unlikely to occur within the permit area. Black-footed ferrets are extremely rare
and no wild black-footed ferrets are known to occur east of the Front Range.
Additionally, Boulder County, which is immediately west of the permit area is part
of a block clearance zone. If black-footed ferrets don't occur in Boulder County,
it is unlikely that they are present just across the road from Boulder County.
References
Andrews, Robert and R.
