ADDENDUM TO
HYDROLOGY, GEOLOGY, AND WATER QUALITY
IN VICINITY OF THE MAXWELL AND ALLEN
MINES
LAS ANIh1A5 COUNTY, COLORADO
This addendum was prepared in response to comments contained in the
Preliminary Adequacy Reviews of the CF&I Steel Corporation's application
for mining permits at the Allen and 1laxwell mines in Las Animas County,
Colorado. The addendum includes a "hydrology map" and a listing of wells
within one mile of the mine plan boundary that have been recorded with
the Colorado Division of Water Resources. Also included in this addendum
are discussions pertaining to the existence and extent of stream laid
• _ deposits and lands that have been historically irrigated.
Plate 5 is a hydrology map showing the locations of wells, o-,ell
depths, ditches, alluvial monitoring points, stream monitoring points,
and sites of subsurface investigations. Portions of the data shown on
Plate 5 were presented in the original report. Table 16 is a summary
listing of the well data for all recorded wells within one mile of the
mine plan boundaries of the Allen and Maxwell mines. The locations and
depths of these wells are also indicated on Plate 5. Cod es of the records
relating to these wells are appended.
Plate 6 shows stream laid deposits within approximately two miles of
the mine plan boundaries of both the Maxwell and Allen mines. Stream laid
deposits that exceed 50 feet in width or 10 acres in extent were mapped
from aerial photos and field reconnaisance was used to verify and refine
the mapping. Stream laid deposits were mapped along the North and South
Forks as well as the main stem of the Purgatoire River, Apache Creek, left
Fork of Apache Creek, Alamosito, Wet, Ciruela, and Parras Creeks as well
as Crooked Creek and South Valleys.
• _
