Location and General Information <br />The Carol Ann Pit permit area is located in Eagle County approximately l .0 miles east of Gypsum, <br />Colorado. More specifically located in Tracts 62 and 42, Section 4, Township 5 South, Range 85 <br />West of the 6th Principal Meridian, lying westerly of Tract 64 of said Township and Range, <br />southerly of the centerline of the Eagle River, and north of the Denver Rio Grande Western <br />Railroad right-of--way. <br />Map Exhibit E located at the end of this application shows the permit and surrounding area. <br />The pit permit area is comprised of 30.0 acres and all aggregate products would be used to supply <br />the local area around the towns of Eagle and Gypsum. The landowner wishes to mine the gravel <br />resource on the property and restore the land to agricultural use. <br />Although the acreage contains approximately 2.0 million tons of recoverable sand and gravel, the <br />plan only contemplates mining 1.7 million tons due to leaving the cottonwood grove and the central <br />drainage intact for environmental reasons. The material will be consumed at a rate determined by <br />the market, however B&B believes it will take approximately 9-10 years to completely mine the <br />site, at an annual production rate of 180,000 tons of sand and gravel products. <br />The Schmidt land is currently a 2 tiered hay meadow, although the mining will take place in only <br />one tier. Afrer mining, the reclaimed land will again be a large hay meadow bounded by the Eagle <br />River to the north and Highway 6&24 to the south. The meadow will be approximately 40 feet <br />below Highway 6&24 and 15 feet above the Eagle River.
