54
•
•
3. INTERPRETATIONS GUIDES 70 TOPSOIL QUALITY CHARACT'II2IZATION
These are taken fmn several sources. Because natural and
disturbed soil and overburden characteristics vary widely from
place to place and because the several agencies have varying
experiences, conceptions and purposes, the guides are not unifoim
in selection and evaluation of criteria for topsoil quality.
The first three guide sheets included here were consulted
in arriving at the classification of the Nucla Mine Lease soils
surveyed in this study. They are, respectively, Table 1 =
Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality; Table 2 = USDA Soil
Conservation Service; and Table 3 = USDI Bureau of Reclamation.
The 4th table is a summary of guidelines fran several
services prepared for a study by the Western Regional Technical
Nk~rk-f~lanning Conference of the Cooporative Soil Survey held
at San Dim, California, February 13-17, 1978,
The 5th table is a proposed unified set of guidelines
developed at this co:,ft;r~nce but not yet officially adopted by
the several agencies.
•
