~~
SECTION H - WILDLIFE
The subject area, especially along the river, does
provide some cover for wildlife habitats. Brown or Norway
rat, skunks and mice appear to frequent the area along the
river. Some sightings of the red fox have also been made.
There appears to be family br families of muscrats
that have established permanent residence in the Bull Seep.
Bull Seep which empties into the So. Platte River at
applicant's property will not be disturbed and will remain
in its natural existing state. (See Mining Plan)
All of the above animals are quite common in Colorado
with two of them considered severe pests (mice and Norway
or Brown rat).
Of the Avian species, quite a few duck and some occasional
geese frequent the area; again, mainly along the river, Some
unidentified Fringillids (snarrow forms) were also observed.
Few, large existing cottonwoods along the river provide a
habitat for a number of magpies. No endangered species such
as the peregrine falcon have been observed on or near the
subject property. The same applies for the black-footed fer-
ret; no sightings by anyone have ever been recorded.
ct and Reclamation
Although the proposed water ski courses will, during
summer ski season, have same negative impacts to waterfowl
offseason, nevertheless, it should attract additional water-
fowl to the area.
Through tree planting-revegetation and total reclamation
process, as discussed earlier, including new lake areas to
be created, new and additional wildlife habitats will be
added in the area. The newly created lake area will improve--
add new habitat for numerous species considered important to
man (ducks, geese and related waterfowl).
In addition, the lake
namely, fish, to the future
of the area.
will add a new form of wildlife;
enjoyment and recreational use
Conclusion
Although, some seasonal disturbance for waterfowl might
be created because of the proposed active recreational facility,
overall the proposed Hazeltine mining and reclamation program
will not have any significant impact upon Colorado wildlife.
-11-
