• z.oa.7
with surface water. Mine water is typically high in total dissolved solids (TDS)
relative to surface water so mixing mine water with surface water would be
expected to increase the TDS of the resultant mix.
Hubbard Creek and Terror Creek are located east and west of the projected
mine plan area. These creeks will be protected from the effects of
subsidence. See section 2.05.6.
Domestic use of water in the permit and adjacent area is derived from wells
completed in the Mancos shale or alluvial river deposits. This ground water
is located geologically at least 800 feet below the coal seam to be mined.
Considering the vertical separation and the impervious shales between the
coal seam to be mined and the domestic wells, it is virtually certain that the
mine operations will not have an adverse effect on the domestic wells in the
adjacent area.
Map 23 -Water Rights Location shows map codes 7 and 8 are associated
with the reclaimed Blue Ribbon Mine. Map code 7 is for the Blue Ribbon
Well which has been sealed. Map code 7 is also for the Blue Ribbon Ditch
which has been abandoned. Map code 8 is for the Blue Ribbon Reservoir
• No. 1 which was been reclaimed. Neither of these water rights are within the
projected angle of draw of the proposed mine workings.
Map Code 16 is the Bronish No. 1 Well. This well is on land owned by the
applicant.
Agricultural use of water in the permit and adjacent area is derived from the
Fire Mountain Canal, Deer Trail Ditch, Terror Ditch, Blue Ribbon Ditch,
Majnik Ditch, Mayes Ditch, Jenkins Ditch No. 1 and 2, and Stephens Ditch.
All of the ditches have primary sources of water such as the North Fork of
the Gunnison River, Terror Creek and Hubbard Creek. Secondary sources
may include surface run-off and return flow from another ditch or canal.
The following information regarding ditches in the area is partially obtained
through verbal conversations and field meetings with Water Commissioner
Cliff Davis (527-3995).
The main source of water for the Fire Mountain Canal is the North Fork of
the Gunnison River. The intake is over two miles upstream from the permit
area so the mine cannot impact the quality of water in this canal. The
secondary source of water for the canal includes surface run-off from the
mine site and return flow from the Deer Trail Ditch.
•
PR-06
2.04 - 36 - 8/01
/b Ppi2oV60
~/~s~oz
