• ABSTRACT <br />Between September 6 and 22, 1979, Western Cultural Resource Management, Inc. per- <br />formed a cultural resource inventory on land intended for impact by the proposed <br />Seneca II-W Coal Mine of Peabody Coal Company (see Figure 5-2). Nine sites and five <br />isolated finds were located within the "life of the mine" boundary. Four of the sites are <br />historic, five are prehistoric, while all of the isolated finds are aboriginal and probably <br />prehistoric. <br />One of the prehistoric sites (5RT120) is recommended for avoidance and stabilization, <br />and one (5RT 132) is recommended for testing. All of the other culturol resources are <br />recommended to receive no further work. <br />Diagnostic material indicates the presence of Plains-Woodland and/or Fremont peoples, <br />late prehistoric to historic probably Ute peoples, and historic A nglos utilizing the area <br />with ranching and probably sheepherding. <br />This report is prepared under Colorado State Permit No. 79-47 and PSAP 78-CO-124. <br /> <br />- ix - Revised October 15. 1984 <br />
