i • <br />5183 <br />Witt aeries <br />The Witt series consists of soils that are fine-silty, mixed, mesic <br />Ustollic Haplargids. They are deep, well drained soils that formed in silty <br />calcareous loess derived from redbed sediments to the west and southwest. <br />Witt soils are on uplands and mesa tops and have elopes of 1 to 8 percent. <br />Average annual precipitation ranges from 14 to 17 inches. The average <br />anmiel soil temperature ranges from 47 to 55 degrees F., and the average <br />summer soil temperature. ranges from 63 to 68 degrees F. <br />Atypical pedon of Witt loam, 1 to 3 percent elopes, ie located <br />approximately 400 feet east and SO feet south of the northwest corner of <br />section/3, T.33N., R.12W. <br />Apl--O to 7 inches; brown (7.SYR 5/4) loam, dark brown (7.SYR 4/3) <br />moist; weak medium granular structure; soft, friable, slightly sticky and <br />nonp.Las[ic; neutral (pH 7.0); clear smooth boundary. <br />Apt--7 to 10 inches; reddish brown (SYR 5/4) loam, reddish brown (SYR <br />4/4) moist; weak coarse platy structure parting to moderate medium granular; <br />hard„ firm, slightly sticky and nonplaetic; neutral (pH 7.0); clear smooth <br />bounc'.ary. <br />Bt1--10 to 19 inches; reddish brown (SYR 5/4) silty clay loam, reddish <br />brown (SYR 4/4) moist; moderate medium prismatic structure parting to <br />moderate medium angular and subangular blocky; hard, firm, sticky and <br />plastic; thin continuous clay films on faces of pads; mildly alkaline (pH <br />7.6); clear smooth boundary. <br />x/93 <br />
