Wh'vlwind Mina Page 3 of 8 <br />MC /SPCC 06/29/07 <br /> <br />Section 1.0 -History of Spills <br />There have been no spills at this facility. <br />Section 2.0 -Emergency Response Procedures -Overview <br />1. Spill Definition <br />For the purpose of this procedure a spill is defined as: <br />The unintentional release of a material in use, process, or storage at the Whirlwind Mine that <br />may result in a significant adverse impact on the environment. <br />The materials used, processed, or stored at the mine site that may have an adverse impact to <br />the environment have been identified and listed in Section 5.0 - "List of Materials" and <br />Exhibit 1 of the Emergency Response Plan. This list should be used as a guide in evaluating <br />any spills or potential spills from the mine. <br />2. Internal Notification <br />If it is believed by an employee that a spill has occurred, or is about to occur, the Mine <br />Superintendent should be notified by following the appropriate Emergency Response <br />Procedures contained in the Whirlwind Mine Emergency Response Plan. These procedures <br />are posted at relevant locations throughout the site facilities. <br />Information pertinent to the incident will be relayed to the Mine Forman and should include, <br />at a minimum, the following: <br />a) The location and nature of the incident <br />b) The type of material. <br />c) The quantity of material released, if any <br /> <br />The Mine Formau will be responsible for notifying the Technical Services Supervisor (T'SS) <br />that a potential spill has oceuned. The TSS will evaluate this information and make a <br />determination as to whether or not a spill has occurred or is about to occur, and if any spill <br />includes a hazardous material in Reportable Quantities (RQ). <br />If it is determined that the incident is indeed a spill, or a potential spill, the caller will be <br />notified to proceed to Step 3 - "Containment Phase," if they have not already done so. The <br />Mine Forman will then notify the Site Emergency Response Team who wi[1 assist with the <br />containment phase. <br />If the Mine Forman cannot be reached, a list is available of staff personnel who are familiar <br />with the Whirlwind Mine containment systems and areas. The caller is to bogie at the top of <br />the list and proceed downward until someone is reached to make a decision. This list is <br />posted neaz telephones at locations throughout the mine site. <br />
