Greg Lewicki And Associates
nEn~vER
OFFICE
9054 S. Forrest Drive
Highlands Ranch, CO USA 80]26
March 11, 2002
Wally Erickson
Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman Street, 2'a Floor
Denver, CO 80203
Dear Wally:
Received
~ ~ 2 2002
Durango Field Office
bn of Minerals & Geology
Enclosed is a second technical revision to the amendment recently submitted for the
Thomas Pit of Four Corners Materials in Durango. Permit number is M-76-020. This
revision accommodates changes requested by the US Army Corps of Engineersand the
Division of Wildlife after a meeting which was conducted on site March 8, 2002. The
changes involve elimination of the southern 200 feet of block embankment protection
along the river since a grove of cottonwoods exists in this area and will provide good
protection for both the bank and better protection for the lower part of the lake
spillway. Erosion Contro] Liner will be placed as close as possible to the trees. CDOW
asked that we provide some type of sediment protection for the time that the
embankment items are installed in the river. For this reason, we added the
concrete/gravel berm at the fork in the river immediately upstream from the gravel
extraction area in the river. This berm will divert water to the east channel (original
river channel) while the embankment protection items are being installed. Once the
work is done, the temporary berm in the river will be removed. The design we have
shown is adequate to handle the 100 year event and has been modified to be less
impacting to the river and as aesthetically pleasing as possible. Thanks for your
patience.
Wally, please let us know if you can give an early approval of the river protection
items so that we can install them as soon as possible during low water.
Sincerely,
ThaMUs F'~ t
M- i9~~-oz~
A M-o f

Greg Lewicki, P.
