eh
ESPEY, HUSTON & ASSOCIATES, INC.

2.0 METHODOLOGY
2.1 MONTTORING SITES
The existing monitoring sites shown in Fig. H-2 were installed in
December of 1977 and January of 1978. The locations for the monitoring equipment
were selected to show the impact of the existing mining activity and to determine
site-specific background for future expansion of the Meeker Area Mines. Since the
existing and proposed mine surface activity is in a nazrow canyon, it was necessary
to locate anemometers to measure wind speed, wind du•ectioa and temperature at
each end of the canyon. The monitoring equipment for total suspended particulate
(TSP) was also located at each end of the canyon to measure the impact of the
existing mining. The State of Colorado also operates a TSP monitor located in
downtown Meeker, Colorado.
I
The sites for these monitors and the installation of the equipment meet
the requirements for Prevention of Significant Deterioration of Air Quality (PSD)
monitoring (Federal Register, 1979)•
2.2 METEOROLOGICAL EQUIPMENT
The meteorological equipment utilized at both stations is the Meteoro-
logical Reseazch Incorporated (MRZ) Model 1071. The continuously monitored wind
speed, wind direction, temperature and precipitation data from stations are recor-
ded on pressure-sensitive strip chazts. The meteorological sensors are mounted at a
height of at least 10 meters from the ground in order to reduce the influence of
ground level wind turbulence.

x-s
_</ __~.•'y~.'ll!//.~-~!~1) f1~ //i \1> 1 .r 1. vll \ ( Ir ~ / ~Jti _ r•~ 1 ~•J
