e
ESPEY, HUSTON & ASSOCIATES, INC.

3.3 PRECIPITATION
In 19791 only 12.41 inches of precipitation was recorded. The data
presented in Table H-2 were collected from the Meeker reporting station.
Figure H-5 shows annual average precipitation in northwest Colorado (EPA, 1976).
The isopleth in the azea of the mine indicates that 16.14 inches is average. A non-
recording precipitation gauge was installed at the mine site in 1978, but the only
data available from the instrument aze presented in Table H-3. A recording
precipitation gauge was installed at the north meteorological station, but the data
have not been evaluated.
3.4 AIR QUALITY
The Federal Clasa II and Colorado Category I (non-designated) ambient
air quality standards are applicable to the Curtis Creek/White River airshed. The
• study azea is within the Eleventh Colorado Air Quality Maintenance Area (AQMA).
There aze essentially no historical measurements of any of the regulated
gaseous pollutants in this study azea.
3.4.1 Sulfur Dioxide
A few observations of 502 were reported near the Hayden Power Plant.
These showed a level near global background (5 ppb). Measurements made at the Ca
and Cb oil shale lease tracts in Rio Blanco County, southwest of Meeker, showed an
average of 5-10 micrograms per cubic meter. These concentrations aze not
expected to be influenced significantly either directly or indirectly by development
of the proposed mine.
•
H-13
