• spillway. Emergency spillway crests, side slopes and channel
slopes will be provided with 24 inches of 15-inch riprap when
placed over the top of the embankment and 9 inches of 6-inch
riprap when cut in the abutment. Riprap will extend from the
upstream face of the dam embankment to a minimum of 10-feet
beyond the downstream face of the embankment. Spillways will
direct flows away from pond embankments.
Energy Dissipators
Riprap energy dissipators will be provided at the outlet ends
of all primary outlet works. The LRCWE Figure 6, Typical
Primary Spillway Energy Dissipator illustrates the protection
to be provided, but variations may be made during final
design.
• REQUIRED SEDIMENT VOLUMES
For the six pond sites, the required sediment volume was
estimated using the product of 0.1 times the acreage of the
active mining areas, as defined in Rule 1.04(4). The area of
active mining was taken from a map provided by Energy Fuels
Company on October 2, 1980. The sediment volume for Pond A
was checked using the Universal Soil Loss Equation which
yielded a smaller volume than the 0.1 product method. The
required sediment volumes are summarized in LRCWE Table 1,
Required Sediment Storage Volumes. LRCWE Plate I,
Sedimentation Ponds, sets forth the pond volume for each
site, which includes the required sediment volume and the
routed 10-year, 24-hour inflow flood.
•
f C1 Leonard Rice Consulting Water Engineers.lnc.
