Mining will start in the fall of 1997 or the spring of 1998 after all required permits have been
obtained. The time required to mine, crush and stockpile each phase will two to three months. A
' phase will produce enough material to last one to two years. The total life of the pit is expected to
be five to eight years.
The depth of overburden averages five feet. The top six inches of the overburden will be saved
and stockpiled for reclamation. The depth of the sand and gravel deposit averages eight feet. The
' underlying material is Mancos Shale.
The primary product to be mined is sand and gravel. This material will be used for construction
' aggregate for roads, pipe bedding and concrete aggregate.
1
1
1
1
1
