•_ <br />• <br />• <br />l_ <br />the existing fill area is shown on Pigure 1. <br />These disposal operations are being performed by Dorchester Coal <br />Company with densities of the compacted material verified by <br />independent testing including Rocky !fountain Geotechnical. <br />$EPS2$T PDRPOSE <br />As previously discussed, the purpose of this report is to: <br />• Evaluate present disposal operations. <br />• Determine appropriate shear strength parameters based on <br />site investigation and laboratory tests. <br />r Determine the optimal pile height and storage configura- <br />tion based on site conditions. <br />• Recommend future construction procedures. <br />Discussion and presentation of the results of each of the above <br />tasks are included in the sections which follow. <br />,~~ INVESTIGATION <br />An investigation of the site vas conducted to evaluate the <br />existing conditions and obtain samples for laboratory testing. <br />A total of three borings were located on the site, two of which <br />were located in the existing refuse pile and the third vas <br />located 1n natural soil. The approximate location of these three <br />borings is shown on Pigure 1. <br />As evidenced by the boring logs (presented in Appendix B), the <br />coal waste varies somewhat in consistency and moisture content <br />with depth and location.
