problem if it occurred. The tailings pond item is the same
as one stated in the Mined Land Reclamation Permit
Application.
2. I thought the lined pond not to be necessary if the
subsoil was found to be impervious enough. Lake County
agreed to wait for final tests for final determination, but
2 would have to line the pond if the tests were not made.
3. The observation well down gradient from the proposed
tailings disposal area has been drilled at the same time the
permeability test holes were drilled. This observation hole
is shown on Map MLR-3, Reclamation Plan.
4. Fencing was completed in late fall, 1987,
5, Water sampling was agreed upon as stated,
6. Water diversion ditches were agreed upon,
The then representative was Don Shroyer.
The current authority is Don Seppi.
ITEM #14
The Hopemore Shaft is a cribbed shaft, with 4" x 8" cribbing
completely retimbered by Leadville Mining & Milling Corp. in
1986 and 1987. The shaft inside dimensions are 4'6" width
by 9'0" length.
I believe the proposed shaft sealing procedures are
consistent with standard engineering practice. I proposed
the concrete collar because it is basically the same design
as those installed over old shafts in the Leadville area by
Colorado Mined Land Reclamation.
Covering and vegetation above the concrete cap will not in
any way weaken its structural integrity if it is tied in
with adequate reinforced concrete outside the perimeter of
the shaft.
