Changes 1n flow of drainage shall be used in preference to the <br />use of water treatment facilities. <br />(2) Acceptable practices to control and minimize water pollution in- <br />clude, but are not limited to-- <br />(i) Stabilizing disturbed areas through land shaping; <br />(ii) Diverting runoff; <br />(iii) Achieving quickly germinating and growing stands of temporary <br />vegetation; <br />(iv) Regulating channel velocity of water; <br />_ (v) Lining drainage channels with rock or vegetation; <br />• <br />(vi) Mulching; <br />(v11) Selectively placing and sealing acid-forming and toxic-forming <br />materials; and <br />(viii) Selectively placing waste materials in backfill areas. <br />(3) If the practices listed at Paragraph (d)(2) of this Section are not <br />adequate to meet the requirements of this Part, the person who conducts <br />surface mining activities shall operate and maintain the necessary water <br />treatment facilities for as long as treatment is required under this <br />Part. <br />I ~~ <br />As already described and referenced in this Section, water pollu- <br />tion will be minimized and, where necessary, controlled by treat- <br />ment methods.
