WOLF CREEK PROJECT
NOTICE-OF-INTENT
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
3) Basis of Rights to Enter for Exploration and Reclamation
Table 1, Location, Ownership and Drillhole Dimensions, summarizes proposed corehole/drillhole
locations and surface and coal ownership at the 2 sites. Map 1, a 1: 12,000 scale map, illustrates the
exploration locations. Al] of the proposed drill-sites are on lands where the surface is owned by
Twentymile Coal Company (TCC), or surface access and use is allowed under existing surface-use
agreements with the surface landowner (please refer to accompanying documentation in Appendix A).
4) Description of Land to be Affected
The proposed exploration area falls within the current TCC Pemut Boundary of approximately 21,000
acres and encompasses portions of Section 14, Township 5 North, Range 86 West, of the 6'" P.M., in
Routt County, Colorado (Appendix B presents the legal description of the proposed exploration program).
The area is approximately 6.5 miles northeast of the TCC surface operations just off County Road 33.
The areas to be affected are characterized as gently sloping topography with elevations ranging from
6,800-6,900 feet. The sites have been located adjacent to existing, unimproved ranch roads. Vegetation
typically consists of sagebrush, rangeland, and cropland. Both cattle and sheep have historically grazed
this area.
Several different soil types occur on the proposed drill-sites, including the Buckskin, Binco, and Aaberg
Silty Clay mapping units. Salvageable horizons of these soils vary from 28 to 60 inches deep.
The drillholes will intercept all or some of the following sandstone units found in the area. The Fish
Creek sandstone is anear-surface local unit that may be intercepted by some of the holes. The next
sandstone encountered will be the massive regional Twentymile Sandstone unit, and then, the Wadge
Overburden, which includes interbedded sands, silts, shales, and the Wadge coal seam. The basal
sandstone is the regionally continuous Trout Creek Sandstone. Presently, TCC monitors groundwater
occun•ence and variations in the Twentymile Sandstone, Wadge Overburden, and Trout Creek Sandstone.
No impacts are anticipated to these units, as a result of the proposed exploration activities.
Cultural resource clearances have been completed for the proposed drill-sites (please refer to
accompanying documentation in Appendix C). Review of the proposed locations by the Colorado
Division of Wildlife (CDOW) did not identify any potentially impacted resources requiring avoidance or
specific mitigation measures (please refer to accompanying documentation in Appendix D).
WoljCreek Projecr NO/
06/03/1001
