III1111111I11111111
Q5
it pact
the environmental scientists & engineers
1409 larimer square denver, colorado 80202 ! 303-571-1300
Z/ J-J" -
December 19, 1977
Mr. Rade H. Drell RE: Persolite Products, Inc. Application
Mined Land Reclamation Specialist (77-319) for the Swallow Perlite Mine.
1313 Sherman Street Suite 723
Denver, Colorado 80203
Dear Mr. Drell :
The following letter is in response to your correspondence of December 6, 1977 and will
constitute the supplement to our application filed with the Board on behalf of
Persolite Products, Inc. In order to be responsive to your concerns, I will address
those items in your letter on an item by item basis:
Item 1 : Exhibit A-Concern is expressed over the legal description of the lease versus
the 9.9 acre permit request. Introduction to the legal description, therefore, now reads
as follows: "This application covers 9.9 acres within the following legal subdivision
and acreage," on the enclosed revision of Exhibit A. Also enclosed is the revised C-3
Mine Plan Map which clearly delineates the 9.9 acres to be permitted.
Item 2: Exhibit C-2-Enclosed is a revision of this exhibit with the legend changed
from "permit application area" to "lease area" .
Item 3: Exhibit B-The acreage mined has been reestimated and corrected to .066 acres/
year.
Item 4: Exhibit E- Topsoil will not be re-used in the reclamation of this mine due
to the Board's October ruling stating that stockpiles must be included as part of the
permit area. In this particular instance the stockpiled topsoil is located in an
area that will not be a part of said permit area, therefore the stockpiled topsoil
will not be available to the operator to reuse at the completion of mining activities.
Item 5: Exhibit E-Paragraph 2 shall be revised as follows:
"Based on field surveys of undisturbed portions of the lease area adjacent
to the mine, it is anticipated that a seeding mixture of 40% Blue Grama,
20% Legume Species, and 40% Wheatgrass species will be used. Other native
grass species present on the site are not commercially available as seed.
Seeding mixtures and methods of seeding shall conform to guidelines specified
in pertinent sections of "Revegetation Guidelines for Surface Mined Areas"
(pp. 3-13 inclusive and pp. 50-53 inclusive)-A CSU publication-or MLRB approved
practices. Should data become available. . . . . . .
