,~
Exhibit D - Mining Plan
Location and Introduction
This is an application for a Regular 112 permit to mine gravel at a
site located in Archuleta County approximately 2.8 miles north-northeast of
Pagosa Springs. The site was issued a Special 111 permit (M-94-070) to
another operator in July of 1994. The project for which the Special 111
permit was issued has been completed and Weber Sand & Gravel will continue
operations at the site. This permi[ application includes all of the area
of the Special 111 permit.
Access
Access to the pit will be directly off of Highway 160 along an
existing ranch road. The road serves as access to the landowner s
residence, outbuildings, and to other parts of the ranch including the area
where gravel extraction will occur. No upgrading of the existing road,
other than occasional maintenance, will be required for the mining
operation. The road is thus exempt from inclusion in the affected area per
Rule 1.1 (4).
Soil Salvaee
Topsoil will be stripped and stockpiled for use in reclamation. The
depth of the surface soil suitable for use in reclamation, and
corresponding depth to be stripped. depends on location on site but is
generally about six inches. Information regarding the site's soil
resources is provided in Exhibi[ I - Soils Information. A1L stockpiling
will occur near the perimeter of the affected area. The Exhibit C map
illustrates the anticipa[ed stockpile locations.
As a stabilization measure, soil stockpiled Eor longer than one year
-4-
