~ ~
Exhibit J - Vegetation Information
The affected area lies at an elevation of about 7,560 feet and most of
the site has open or southerly aspect. A small portion of the area has
northern exposure.
The plant community of the area with open and southerly aspects is
composed of a ponderosa pine overstory with Gambel oak. The portion of the
site with northern exposure consists of ponderosa pine with occasional
white fir intermixed. Most of the trees present range from 2 to 19 inches
diameter at breast height, but some groups of saplings are also locally
present.
Grasses comprise an estimated 60 percent of the understory plant
community; forbs comprise an estimated 35 percent and shrubs and half-
shrubs comprise an estimated 5 to 10 percent. Depending on location, the
plant density is estimated to range from 10 to 25 percent. The total
annual yield of air-dry material is estimated to be 200 pounds per acre.
The following inventories the existing vegetation occurring on site
and provides information pertaining to the native (potential) vegetation
relative to soil types.
The site was visited in early June of 1994 and the following lists the
principal species noted on site:
Trees and Shrubs Relative Composition
Ponderosa Pine )
White Fir* ) dominant
Gambel Oak )
^" On north-facing slope
-19-
