As you may recall, the Bedrock Mine is located Section 36 Township 21 S ,Range 68 W
in Pueblo County and a file search was conducted by your office during our normal review
period. This file search indicated that there were no formally recorded Cultural Resources in the
proposed mining area. However, a local landowner whose land will be impacted by the proposed
mining operation retained the services of Medicine Bow Consultants, Inc. to conduct a
preliminary archeological and environmental field reconnaissance of the proposed affected area.
A copy of this report is attached to this letter for your review.
As a result of the information brought forth during the Pre-Board Hearing Conference and later
confirmed in the report, the Division of Minerals and Geology is requesting that a representative
of your office be present during the Formal Public Heazing to clazify what the procedure is
between our offices with respect to the discovery of potentially significant cultural and historic
resources on a permitted mine site and what protection they may be afforded under current law.
The hearing is scheduled for February 25, 1998 at 11:00 a.m. and will be held in room 318 of
the Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street, Denver, Colorado.
If you have any questions about the report or our request to have your office present during the
hearing ,please contact me at 866-3567.
Sin erely,
~~~ ~ ~
Anthony J.
