Unconsolidated alluvial, terrace, and
surticial landslide deposits.
Klo-Lewis Shale. Conformably overlies the Williams Fork Formation
consisting primarily of dark gray to bluish gray homogenous marine
shale. Ranges in thickness between 1500 and 1900 feet and outcrops
about 0.75 miles north and east of the Yoast Mine area, but includes
the entire length of the north haul road. The Washakie syncline
traverses the central portion of this unit and extends northward
about one -half mile east of Hayden.
Kw- Williams Fork Formation. Consisting of interbedded gray shale,
white sandstone, and coal, this formation ranges in thickness
between 1100 and 2000 feet. The Williams Fork outcrops in the Yoast
Mine area and contains the upper and middle coal group of the
Mesaverde Group, including the Lennox, Wedge, and Wolf Creek coal
seems. The prominent 100 to 200 -foot thick Twenty Mile Sandstone
Member occurs as the middle unit of this formation.
Ki -Iles Formation. Approximately 1500 feet thick, the lower two -
thirds of the Iles Formation consists of massive ledge forming beds
of light brown, light gray, and white sandstone interbedded with
lesser amounts of sandy shale and coal. The upper third contains a
shale sequence capped with a cliff forming sandstone. The 35 to
125 -foot thick Tow Creek sandstone member is at the base and the
100 -foot thick Trout Creek sandstone member is the cap of this
formation. The Iles outcrops immediately southwest and southeast of
the Yoast Mine area.
Km- Mancos Shale. The Mancos Shale Formation, which is about 4900 -
foot thick, conformably underlies the Iles Formation and overlies
the Dakota Sandstone. Consisting predominantly of homogenous dark
gray marine shale, the Mancos outcrops about one mile south and west
of the Yoast Mine area along the Saga Creek and Fish Creek
anticlines.
Based on information from Watec Inc. (1981), Tweto (1976), and
Golder Associates (1990)
.
The following map units are based on a photo and topographic interpretive
study completed by Stover (1994). These map units will be verified by field
analysis.
Qols- Quaternary Age Deposits. Unconsolidated older surticial landslide
deposits.
Qls- Quaternary
Age Deposits. Unconsolidated younger surticial landslide
deposits.
Als- Quaternary Age Deposits. Unconsolidated active surticial landslide
deposits.
ENGINEER' oS, ..
