Prior to
topsoil stripping, we will apply a herbicide to kill those weeds .
The topsoil stockpiles will be vegetated with a quick growing grass•
if they are left in place for more than one growing season. This
vegetative cover will prevent excessive weed growth oil the
stockpiles .
Afte"r. the topsoil is redistributed over the reclaimed areas, a seed
mix recommended.by the Soil Conservation Service will be installed
as soon as possible . In this way the desirable plants can
germinate and provide a protective cover .
Undoubtedly some weed growth will occur . Prior to seed heads being
formed on the weeds , the area will be mowed to a six inch height.
In our reclamation experience , we have found this type of weed
control procedure effective .
In the final land use plan, approximately 25 acres will be
available for cattle grazing . Much of this ground is undisturbed
land which is now very poor pastureland . we estimate the maximum
number of cattle which can be grazed on this property is from 10 to
20 head.
Cattle cannot be grazed all season long because not enough weight
of palatable forage is produced. Several times a year, the
property owner could bring about le to 20 head of cattle onto the
property.
Grazing will not occur until the reclaimed areas .are pt _v oidi.n.g --- -
sdbctantial cover and the existing vegetation and ground has been
released by the Mined Land Reclamation Division. At this point the
plants should be self generating,
L 1
V• I..1! ,._ ._....... .....III I.n\I
.h A, TnTPL PAGE . 003 3*
