DETAILED DESCRIPPION
• DRAKE~MPBELL DITCH MITIGATION PLAN
Present Situation:
The Drake-Campbell Ditch presently diverts flows fran the Garvin Mesa area in
Sec. 29, T.13S., R.91W., 6th P.M. (see hiap 5-1). The source of the Drake- Camp-
bell Ditch is run-off fran Coal C~lch, seepage, and irrigation return flow fran
'I~rror Ditch. Since Opal Clalch is an ephemeral stream, most of the water is fran
this seepage and return flow.
Mitigation Plan:
1. CWI projects shall effects due to subsidence. Substantial protection of
various water rights can be afforded with regular mrnitoring and quick repair
of subsidence-induced problems. CWI believes that the watershed Eor Coal
Q~lch may be repaired as is described in the F~ngeland Repair Section of the
Subsidence F~pair Handbook. The rim-off that contributes to irrigation flow
• is small. Based on the most conservative estimates, less than 6 acre-feet of
flow would be generated.
2. Transportation improvements on this ditch would be undertaken if water were
lost due to subsidence-induced phenanena and could not be repaired. The
transportation improvements would be buried pipelines or concrete linings
that would ensure equivalent flows after subsidence. CWI has contacted the
owner of the Drab-Campbell Ditch so possible improvements may be discussed.
3. Finally, CWI could deliver 7 shares of T2rror Ditch water to the Drake- Camp-
bell Ditch. If transportation improvements could not offset the losses, CWI
would process the necessary legal documents to use water in this different
location. Terror Ditch water currently irrigates the Carvin Mesa area, and
Gar~~in Mesa is not a potential AVF.
•
