Dept. ~•. ~....~, _, .'c~alrces
Dear Mr. Schmeiding:
I will address my answers to each of your questions with the same number
and letter as in your letter of December 18, 1980.
1. Mining Plan
A. The underground mine at the Hogback is still in operation.
Although there are no accurate records available, I believe
the surface operations ceased somewhere in the early SO's.
B. The affected area has little to no topsoil due to the steep
rocky terrain. Whenever pockets of topsoil that can be
saved are encountered, that topsoil will be spread on one or
more of the completed terraces in the preceding stage.
2. Reclamation Plan
A. The surface drainage will not be affected by the operation.
3. Reclamation Costs
A. The rip-rap used for reclamation is a waste material from
the mining operations; therefore, there is no additional
cost. The waste rock from the mining operation is hard
sandstone, of which the larger pieces will be used for rip-
rap and the fines will be used for the terraced slope surfaces.
4. Local Government Approval
We realize that Douglas County must approve the zoning before the
application can be approved. We expect approval in the near future.
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Michael G.
