As with all areas that have been disturbed, the
possibility of infestation by noxious weeds is more likely to occur. A plan to control the growth and
expansion of these plants may need to be developed. The Division also suggests that the seed mix used
for revegetation reflect the existing species composition on the property. The seeding of native plants for
revegetation is encouraged, therefore we discourage the use of Smooth Brome, anon-native plant, for
reclamation plans. The use of fertilizer may also promote plant growth in reclaimed areas.
The Division appreciates having this opportunity for input. Please feel free to contact me at
(719)227-5227 if you have questions or require additional information.
Sincere
i~~~y` _
Shannon Albeke
Habitat Biologist
Cc: Warren Cummings, DWM
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES, Greg E Walther, Executive Director
WILDLIFE COMMISSION, Rick Enstrom, Chair • Robert Shoemaker, Vice-Chair • Marianna Raftopoulos, Secretary
Members, Bernard Black • Tom Burke • Philip James • Brad Phelps • OINe Valdez
Ex-Officio Members, Greg E.
