RECEfVED
MAR 18 2002
Colorado Representatives: Division of Minerals and Geology.
-'We request your deh-al of approving the 22 conc'itions the
Rio-Grand Portland`Cem2nt CoYp.:must•:comply to the:.county.of Pueblo.
We have been residents of Pueblo county for 45: years ,, and have
enjoyed the envior;.ment. However, we are deeply concerned that on
Sept. 21, 1999 a special use permit (No. 1999002) for Rio Grand
Portland was issued.
We ask as tax paying citizens, that you as a governing body
of Colorado reconsider and decline this permit. Rio Grande will
only provide our state with negativety to our land, air and water.
There are no positives to accepting this cement manufacturing
facility to our state.
1. Rio Grande Corporation, wi~Ll not benefit the majority of
the community with JOB employment, as most employees will be
transfered in from out of state.
2: We sternly object to the placement of a cement manufacturing
plant so close to the St. Charles River. In the year 2002, we as a
country should be smarter-than to pollute our water: Clean unpolluted
rivers are quickly becoming extinct.
3. Cough, Cough, air quality in Pueblo county will be compromised.
Polluted air will travel in the wind to your house hundreds of miles
away. The health of our children and adults must be considered:
As a city, county or state representative, please reject
permit No. 1999002. It is your job to preserve and protect Colorado's
enviorment.
Mark Steves '`~1~~w'~"~~-
Susan Steves ~n~~ -~1~~~,~
2909 lime rd. 5.-~Y~`~
Pueblo, Colorado
81004
