Impacts to Surface Water From Gravity Discharges From Portals Not Sealed <br />At The Conclusion of Mining <br />Gravity discharges from portals at the conclusion of mining are virtually <br />impossible for the following reasons: <br />I) Records from the Colorado Division df Mines (see Hydrology section) <br />indicate that the old mines in the area in the Upper and Lower <br />Starkville Seams were very dry. No discharge from the mine is <br />expected at any time, even with the addition of water used during <br />mining. <br />2) The portals are not located in the vicinity of the low point of the <br />• projected mining in either seam. <br />3) Permanent seals are to be constructed in each portal according to <br />M.S.H.A. specifications as shown in the reclamation section of this <br />application. These seals prevent the passage of air or water in <br />either direction. <br /> <br />5G2 <br />
