The property known as the Black
Cat Pit was acquired in February 1978 by John Frank Triantos, Jr.
and Craig Allen Triantos. The affected land will include
9.9 acres. The county pit has been worked out and is no longer
being operated by Delta County.
It is the intent of John and Craig Triantos to commence
mining on the east side of the area mined by the county and con-
tinue mining in an easterly direction toward their eastern
property line (see map Exhibit C).
The property can be located by starting at the junction
of Main and 5th Streets in the Town of Delta and proceeding
west on 5th Street approximately 3.75~miles to a county road;
thence south approximately 0.3 miles to the pit entrance on the
east side of the road.
The property is classified as "salt desert breaks" by the
United States Soil Conservation Service. The Service describes
the vegetation as a "fair covering of native grass, sage, cactus
and brush."
Mining Plan.
