page 2
~,
J
size of disturbed areas and size of area to be reclaimed. We are
anticipating that approximatly 4 to 7 acres will be the maximum
amount that will be needed for the entire operation and
stockpiling of materials at one time. Out of the proposed 4 to 7
acres, we plan to use 2 to 3 acres for stockpiles and staging
equipment and approximatly 2 acres for mining, following with 1
to 2 acres for reclamation phases. Newly disturbed areas will be
seeded with full seed mix annually.
The new access road will be stripped of any existing topsoil
which will be placed in other topsoil piles or bladed to the side
of the road and be seeded with the full seed mix.
The road is relativly flat so minimal construction will be
needed. The end of the road will slope down to the floor of the
pit, as mining progresses westward the road will be sloped
accordingly.
All fuels and lube equipment will be truck mounted. Any of the
operations that may possibly have fuel or oil spills, will have
bentonite clay or poly liners under them and berms around to
protect ground water. Equipment will also be available to remove
any contaminated material.
The amounts of topsoil and subsoil removed will vary through out
the pit area. We will strip off the topsoil until we reach a
color change and/or gravel and rock layers. Often times only
topsoil will be salvaged if subsoil is desirable for building
materials. The topsoil will be placed as thick as possible from
1" to 6" minimum. The areas of reclamation which may require
more care such as the sandy areas, may need more dykes or
irregular shaped ditches to abate erosion and possibly additional
seed mix.
Both topsoil and subsoil may be mixed during removal and
stockpiling.
In reviewing our commitment in Exhibit E of the BLM portion, we
feel those practices to be used in extreme cases. Our basic
reclamation plan is to spread the topsoil over the disturbed area
at a depth of 1 to 6 inches minimum, the seed mix will then
normally be drilled. Topsoil piles and areas needing to be
reseeded will be hand broadcast. Witnessing the entire life of
the pit and the reclamation that has been performed there so far
with good results, along with the volunteer vegatation, we feel
that what we have distribed above will be very adequate.
The contours in the Reclamation Plan Map in the northeast corner
are not quite accurate, the only possible disturbace in that area
will be the topsoil stockpiles.
As for exhibit M, enclosed you will find copies fom the Saguache
County Road and Bridge Dept., Proof of contact from Colorado
