<br />6.3.3 Exhibit B-Site description <br />(a) A description of the vegetation and soil characteristic in the area of <br />the gravel pit are as follows: VEC~fATION: The site of the pit is part of the <br />shortgrass prairie whish consists of 80-90% grasses, 5-10% forbs aryl 2-10% <br />shrubs. The daninant species in the potential plant camn~nity are Blue <br />Crams, Western Wheatgrass and Creen Needlegrass. SOII, CI-]ARP,CI'ERISTICS: <br />Safianta Loam, 1 to 3% slopes. '19~is level soil is on terraces and uplarrls. <br />'T'he Satt3r~ta series consists of deep, well drained soils that formed in mixed <br />alluvial and wind-deposited material. Included with this soil in mappinc7 <br />are a few small areas of soils that are more sloping or less sloping. Also <br />included are a few small areas of Fort Collins, Nunn, aryl Altvan soils. <br />'typically, the surface layer is loam about seven inches thick. The upper <br />part of the subsoil is a clay loath andis about sixteen inches thick. <br />The substratum is a loam about twenty-one inches thick over a fine sandy <br />loam extending to sixty inches or more. Permeability is moderate, and the <br />available water capacity is high. Reaction is mildly alkaline below that <br />depth. Runoff is slight, and the hazard of erosion is slight to moderate. <br />This unit is a loamy Foothill range site. Capability emit is IIe-1 Irri- <br />gated, IIIe-6 Dryland <br />(b) Man-made structures within 200 feet of the pit include: <br />-Barbed wire fence, approximately 120 feet north of the north edge of <br />the pit. It is owned by Fdwin and Opal Turner, 12705 N. Co. Rd. # 5, <br />Wellington, CO. Shown on Exhibit E, Map. <br />-Electrical transportation tower and power line, owned by the United <br />States Dept. of Energy Western Arcs Power Admistratirn. Shown on <br />Exhibit E, Map. <br />(c) The pit is located in an acid region with very little rainfall (13" <br />S' r year avers e, accordi to the De of <br />~ )• ~~ pe g ng pt. Agriculture Soil Con- <br />~ ~s servation District). No streams, springs, lakes, stock rater ponds <br />„ S° or aquifers would receive drainage frvn the affected area. In the <br />~~ unlikely event of excess rainfall, the water would flow into an <br />un-named dry creek bed and into a 64" concrete culvert under the <br />state highway west of the pit, and into a'36" culvert approximately <br />300 feet south of the 64" culvert. <br />(d) A statement fran the Colorado Division of Wildlife Technician, Tom <br />Ostertaa of the Wellington State Wildlife Area is enclosed. <br />
