The crop productivity information provided in this report (Table 1) covers
the previous ten year period, 1977 through 1987. In 1985 several changes in
ownership of the various ranches occurred. The Childress ranch acreage was
leased to the Longs. The Gabossi ranch was transferred to Maneotis and the
McKune ranch was transferred to Green.
Crop yields for the various ranches reflect the various owner and/or lessee
needs for the most part rather than an attempt by the individuals to produce
highest yields possible. Additionally, the intensity of management practices
of the fields also reflect the individual desires rather than an attempt a
maximum yields. At the Childress ranch, in 1987, approximately 20 acres of
the lower lying acreage was inundated by water as a result of beaver dams
immediately downstream. As a result, this amount of acreage was lost from
• potential crop yields. On the acreage managed by Maneotis, most of the fields
in 1987 were used as pasture for sheep rather than for hay production.
Due to the varied management practices employed at the ranches, the data
gathering efforts over the previous ten year period for determining potential
impacts to the potential productivity of the fields have proved fruitless. As
such, the continued gathering of such data is questionable.
•
