Dept. of PJatural Resourre^
ATTN: Jim McArdle
RE: State Land - Jensen Pit; Your File No. 83-50
Dear Jim,
I am submitting this in response to the questions you asked in your
letter of March 29, 1983 concerning our permit application for the State
Land - Jensen Pit.
A. Exhibit B - Mining Plan
1. The topsoil stockpile should be located in an area which is not
subject to periodic flooding.
Response: Our policy is to not specify a specific stockpile site
unless there are circumstances that dictate the use of
some certain location. In this instance, the bulk of
the affected area is probably 10 to 15 feet above the
dry creek bed. Therefore, unless the stockpile is
placed in the creek bed, which we would not allow,
there is very little chance of the stockpile site
flooding.
2. To what depth will material be mined?
Response: As stated under Exhibit D: Soils, the overburden in
this pit ranges from approximately 2.5 feet to 7 feet.
The gravel thickness ranges from a layer of 3.5 feet,
up to a thickness of 8.5 feet. It appears our excavation
will range from approximately 6 to 12 feet. However,
the excess overburden will be placed back into the
excavated area. I would estimate that the final
reclaimed area would be lowered an average of
approximately 4 to 6 feet.
B. Exhibit G - Source of Legal Right to Enter
The State Land Board granted us permission to mine gravel during
their March 28, 1983 meeting. We have not received the permit yet.
However, as soon as we receive it, we will forward a copy to your
office.
