• On drilled sites the hay or straw will be crimped with a serrated disc
or other appropriate equipment. On steeper slopes and areas
where crimping is not feasible, straw or hay will be anchored down
using a tackifier, netting, or a tackifier mixed with wood or
wood/paper fiber. The tackifier will be applied in accordance with
manufacture's specifications with consideration of the type and
quantity of mulch applied, slope, soil conditions and other
applicable factors.
(v) No irrigation, disease control or animal control measures are
planned at this time. Should future needs arise, the Division will be
contacted for approval. Pest control will primarily involve control of
noxious weeds. Two noxious weeds that have been identified on
site are White Top and Russian Knapweed. Reclaimed and
operational disturbance areas will be monitored for noxious weed
infestation. Monitoring will generally be done during routine
observation of the site and during inspections. If noxious weed
infestations occur at levels which may interfere with successful
revegetation or are detrimental to stand quality, weed control using
• herbicides will be implemented. Typically for White Top a spring
application of 4 pounds/acre of 2-4D(Ester) or 1 ounce/acre of
Telar may be used. For Russian Knapweed a spring and/or fall
application of a mix of 1-2 quarts/acre of Tordon 22K plus 1
quart/acre of 2-4D(amine) may be used. Except for spot
applications of 2-4D, applications will be made by properly
licensed/or certified outside services. Annual evaluations of areas
treated the previous year will monitor the effectiveness of the
program.
Additional weed control may include control of any type of
vegetation which may grow around substations, buildings,
conveyors, within 1 00' of mine portals, and other areas where
vegetation may present a fire hazard.
