I•
•
The topsoil stockpile areas will not require topsoiling because the original topsoil
will remain in place. The surface to be revegetated following removal of stored topsoil
will be ripped to relieve compaction.
3.5 REVEGETATION PRACTICES
3.5.1 Seedbed Preparation
Prior to seeding, the regraded surfaces will be extensively roughened to provide
for increased moisture retention and favorable micro sites for plant establishment.
3.5.2 Seed Mixture
The reclaimed areas will have a relatively thick layer of unconsolidated soil
material following reclamation grading. This deep colluvial soil supports the big
sagebrush shrubland as opposed to the shallow soils over fractured bedrock that
support the pinyon juniper vegetation. For this reason the Big Sagebrush seed mix will
be utilized for all of the reclaimed areas even though most of the disturbance is in the
juniper woodland community.
In accordance with BLM requirements, the mulch used shall be certified weed
free by the Colorado Department of Agriculture per Federal Register Vol. 61, No. 143,
July 24,1996. A copy of the 'Transit Certificate" shall be submitted to the BLM and
approved prior to the use of the mulch. If the mulch is grown outside of the state of
Colorado, BLM shall be contacted and the state inspection program shall be identified.
BLM must approve the state inspection program methods and receive proof of
inspection by that program prior to using the mulch.
The edges of the road will not be recontoured but will only be chisel plowed and
r1
LJ
disk harrowed prior to seeding. The recontoured area near the base of the upper road
has slopes that are typically shallow. The surface of this recontoured area will be ripped
if it was compacted by vehicle or equipment traffic but the seedbed will be left rough to
enhance the moisture retention in the area.
Permit Renewal
3-17
09/03
