• Topsoil Storage was used for stabilization. The reclamation of the Loma loadout and
interim reclamation at the Munger mine bench was completed in the fall of 2001.
The mine site will be recontoured using the material that is stored on the mine
bench, by excavating the premining drainage that exists under the mine bench, and by
removing a small amount of material from the crest of the highwall to help reduce the
slope in that area.
In accordance with the request of the BLM, the area at the crest of the highwall
to be removed to help provide stable 2H:1 V slopes will be staked at 50-foot intervals.
This will allow the inspection of the area by the BLM prior to earthwork to confirm the
area will have less than 0.3 acres of additional disturbance and the reclamation will
conform with Figure 3.1-7. BLM will then give verbal and written approval to proceed.
The roof fall material stored on the mine bench; as well as, the interim reclamation
material from the Loma loadout was placed against the existing toe of the slope at the
portals prior to backfilling with the relatively clean dirt stored on the mine bench. Where
the coal seam is now exposed or coal is backfilled, the areas will be covered with at
• least four feet of non-toxic, noncombustible material. The final reconfiguration will
involve excavation of minor amounts of material from the top of the slope to complete
the reconfiguration. The material taken from the top of the slope will generally be taken
from the alignment of a premining road and will create little additional disturbance. The
final configuration will have slopes of 2H:1 V in the main area of the mine site.
Prior to grading of the portal area for mining, a livestock trail existed from the
bottom of the canyon near the mine site to the area above the mine. Reclamation of
the mine site will include re-establishment of this trail along the approximate original
route as shown on Figure 3.1-7. The trail still exists on the slope below the mine and
was used to install and will be used to remove the power poles. Minor regrading and
installation of water bars will be accomplished with a small track dozer that will also be
used remove the power poles and conductor. In the portal area, the trail will be re-
established by creating a four foot wide nearly level bench along the eastern slope. The
livestock trail will be sloped about 2 percent toward the drainage to allow for proper run
off and minimize erosion. Water bars will also be created as shown on Figure 3.1-7.
Permit Renewal 3-12 09/03
