The Corp has allowed us to place a drop structure to
try to control the erosion. This structure is not working and the
Corp has informed us that they are going to issue us a letter to
remove the structure. Even though the Corp has been cooperative
we have been completely stopped by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife
Service. The Division should be aware of the difficulty operators
are going to have on the Gunnison River because of the Endangered
Species Act. We do not believe that we could ever get them to
allow actions within the river and they are trying to extend
their authority to include the 100 year flood plain.
In closing, without the cooperation of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife
we do not feel that we can do anything but allow the river to
take its natural action.
Thank you for your comments and suggestions during this
inspection.
