Zhe native <br />ve3etation is mainly midgrasses and short grasses. The avecage annual <br />pr.>cipitatirn is about 13 to 15 inches. <br />lfiis unit is 25 percent Schamber very gravelly sandy loam and 25 percent <br />St~~neliam loam. Also in this unit is about 15 percent intergrading gravelly <br />soils. <br />Included in this unit are shall areas of Vona loamy sand, Eckley <br />gravelly sandy loam, and Yoder sandy loam. The percentage varies fran one <br />area to another. <br />The Schamber soil is deep and excessively drained. It foL~ned in sand <br />anct gravel derived daninantly fran the Ogallala formation. Sloix is 6 to 35 <br />percent. Typically, the surface layer is grayish brown very gravelly sandy <br />loam 3 inches thick. The subsurface is brom very gravelly sandy loam 7 <br />inches thick. The upper 8 inches of the substratum is pinkish gray very <br />gravelly loarty sand. Zhe loner part is light gray very gravelly sand to a <br />depth of 60 inches or more. <br />Permeability of the Schamber soil is veLy rapid. Available crater <br />capacity is lvw. Effective rooting depth is 60 indhes or more. iauioff is <br />rapid, and the hazard of cater erosion is moderate. The hazard of soil <br />blcwing is high. <br />i ~9 <br />
