The Colba• series consists of gently sloping, limy soils
that formecj in silty, limy loess. These soils occur m all
parts of the county. The largest acreages are in the eastern
third.
In a typical profile the surface layer is light bro]cnish-
grny to grayish-broach silt loam about 6 inches thick.
Belo]c this, to a depth of about 2D inches, is pale-brown silt
loam. This material has eery aceak, coarse, subanguL•u'
a antler of mt inch in diameter, The rest of the profile, to
a depth of 60 inches, is light yelloacish-broach, stronglt
calcareous, massia'e silt loam.
Colb}• soils are nahu•a11}' aa'ell clrainerl. The}' hate slow'.
to medium runoff, moderate permeabilitt, and a higl
If cultivated or otergrnzed, the}• are susceptible to blo~
ing and to water erosion.
Most of the acreage is used as range. Much of it. has Lt•, ,
